CAPTAIN Lawrence J. Stein, USN, reported to the Naval War College faculty in August 2012 after completing a tour as Director of Intelligence, Joint Intelligence Operations Center Europe (JIOCEUR) Analytic Center (JAC) Molesworth, United Kingdom. Previous operational tours include: Senior Intelligence Officer on USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75) where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and received the Edwin T. Layton Award for intelligence excellence in 2005; Intelligence Chief for Operations Team One, U.S. Strategic Command/National Air Operations Center (NAOC); Assistant Intelligence Officer on USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) where he was chosen as the Commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Junior Intelligence Officer of the Year for 1994; and Missile Officer and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS LEFTWICH (DD-984). His shore assignments include: Director of Intelligence, Tactical Training Group Pacific; Deputy Director of Staff, U.S. Naval Forces Europe - U.S. Sixth Fleet (CNE-C6F); Chief Information Officer and Fleet Intelligence Systems Officer, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet; and Counter-narcotics Case Officer and Air Operations Coordinator, Coast Guard District Seven. CAPT Stein earned a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Pennsylvania State University (1987) and a M.S. in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College (2003). Captain Stein is a Joint Qualified Officer, and is currently serving as the Edwin T. Layton Military Chair.
