22 – 23 May 2014
Manila, Philippines

INTENT

Regional Alumni Symposia (RAS) are academic conferences designed to continue the professional military education of U.S. Naval War College alumni after they leave Newport.  Programs include keynote speeches by prominent military leaders in the region, faculty-led panels addressing contemporary challenges, and table-top war games.  Topics for this year's RAS include: Information Sharing/Interoperability; HA/DR Lessons Learned; and Preserving Freedom of Navigation and Overflight in the Indo-Pacific Region.  Networking among future leaders in the region is another valuable outcome of these events.

COUNTRIES INVITED

Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, United States, and Vietnam.

 PARTICIPANTS

Active duty and distinguished retired alumni from the U.S. and the region are invited to attend. All chiefs of service have received personal letters inviting them to send participants.  Copies of these letters are available upon request.

 ATTRIBUTION POLICY

A strict policy of non-attribution is in place to promote frank, constructive dialogue.

ATTIRE

The uniform for the daily symposium events will be Summer White or Service Equivalent.  Events held outside of the symposium hotel will be Smart Casual – collared shirt with dress trousers.

LOGISTICS

All travel, lodging, and airport transfers are paid by each participant's service, unless otherwise arranged.

The Naval War College will provide lunch for all participants on both days of the RAS, and dinner on Thursday evening.

Self-funded participants must make their own hotel arrangements.   A block of hotel rooms at the conference location has been set aside at a pre-negotiated price of $152.00 USD per night.

Alternate, less expensive accommodations near the conference location are also available.
Please contact symposium coordinators for additional information.
