Deterrence & Escalation
The War Gaming Department collaborates with the Mahan Scholars Research group in examining and War Gaming the strategic impact of nuclear weapons proliferation, deterrence, employment, and escalation and its implications on U.S. plans, policy, and force structure.
Analysis of these strategic and operational challenges is conducted at the classified level and in partnership with U.S. Strategic Command. Mahan Scholars annually brief their work directly to the CNO and STRATCOM leadership, and regularly to many other senior war fighters and decision makers within the national security community.
The Mahan Scholars are a collaborative student-faculty research effort that employs foreign primary source analysis, military operations analysis, and war gaming to examine in detail near-term nuclear warfare areas.
