Additional Academic Opportunities

In place of required electives, resident U.S. Naval War College students may apply for the opportunity to participate in Advanced Research Programs (ARPs). These research programs involve group work, individual study, faculty collaboration, wargaming, workshops, and even research trips. Our regional studies groups have become strategic assets in the war on terrorism and in future military operations; they have also helped to support the Chief of Naval Operations maritime security cooperation initiatives. Students are invited to participate as their schedule permits during their academic year.

Advanced Strategist Program (ASP) is available for students skilled in the practice of formulating, developing, and executing strategy at various leadership levels in order to fill key billets in Navy, Joint, and high-level political staffs.

Graduate Certificate in Ethics and Emerging Military Technology (EEMT) is available for students that are looking to deepen their expertise in the ethical complexities imposed by new technology. This course is completed in conjunction with the College of Naval Warfare curriculum.

The Graduate Certificate in Maritime History is a specialized track for students who are looking to deepen their expertise in maritime history and naval warfare. This course is completed in conjunction with the College of Naval Warfare curriculum.

Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Ethics is a specialized track for students that are looking to deepen their learning of advanced leadership and organizational concepts and practices. This course is completed in conjunction with the College of Naval Warfare.
