Profile

Professor Martin joined the Naval War College faculty in August 1994 as an active duty Marine lieutenant colonel. He taught in the Joint Military Operations department until his retirement from active duty in September 1998. After his retirement, Professor Martin joined the civilian faculty of the Joint Maritime Operations Department in the College of Distance Education. His Marine Corps career included assignments in various operational aviation command and control billets in all three active Marine aircraft wings as well as various staff assignments. He also served as Executive Officer and ultimately Commanding Officer of Marine Air Support Squadron-1 in the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing. During DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM, he was the air support detachment commander for Marine Forces Afloat aboard the USS Nassau (LHA-4). He graduated from the USMC Command and Staff College in 1987 and the Air War College in 1994. He holds a B.S in Ed. Degree from the University of Maine and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University.
