Robert L. Carney currently serves in the College of Distance Education’s National Security Decision Making Department where he teaches the Contemporary Staff Environment Course. Before joining the Naval War College faculty, Professor Carney served 27 years in the United States Army. His tours of duty include service as a Divisional Air Defense Battalion Commander in the Republic of Korea and various staff assignments in the Pentagon and U.S. Central Command. He is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom in which he served as the Operations Officer for the theater’s Air and Missile Defense Command. A 1979 graduate of the United States Military Academy, Col (Ret) Carney graduated from the Army’s Command and General Staff College in 1991 and the Naval War College in 2001.
