Profile

Professor Tom Moore has taught Joint Military Operations since 2001 in the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) program at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). He also teaches Army Civil Affairs and MISO officers in the U.S. Army Security, Stability and Development in Complex Operations (SSDCO) course. He previously taught for nine years at the Naval Postgraduate School. And in various capacities he has also taught for the Monterey Institute of International Studies, University of San Francisco, Golden Gate University, Hartnell College, Virginia Tech, Stanford University, California State University Monterey Bay and the U.S. Army Logistics University.
 
Dr. Moore holds a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in operations research from Stanford University (M.S. in O.R.), and a B.A. in theoretical mathematics from Northeastern University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Field Artillery and Engineer Schools, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Naval War College.
 
Over the years, Dr. Moore has taught probability, statistics, queuing theory, database design, inventory theory, supply systems management, information technology management, logistics engineering, operations management, regression analysis, time series forecasting, economic analysis, statistical cost estimation and joint military planning.
 
Colonel Moore retired from the U.S. Army in 2004 after 30 years in the Active Army and Army Reserve. He has been a Quartermaster, Field Artillery, Engineer and General Staff officer. He served for 22 years in Reserve positions in the Pentagon.  Colonel Moore is also an alumnus of the 2004 and 2005 Symposiums on East Asia Security (SEAS), a program that is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Pacific Command.
 
Locally, Dr. Moore has served as an elected official for 18 years on the Board of Directors of the Marina Coast Water District, and is on the boards of the Fort Ord Reuse Authority and the Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency. He has served as a city planning commissioner and a board member or president of eight non-profit organizations. He is a U.S. Soccer Federation certified referee, instructor, and assigner; president of the Monterey Peninsula Soccer League; and former Chair of the Board of Directors of the California Soccer Association North.
