The Maritime History Department serves as the central resource and contact point for the Naval War College in maritime history subject matters. Its research specialties include: the history of the theory and practice of naval and maritime strategy; the history of naval operations in all periods; the history of naval activities in the Narragansett Bay region since the age of exploration; and the history of the Naval War College since 1884. The principal advisor on maritime and naval history research, the Ernest J. King Professor of Maritime History, publishes academic-quality books and provides information and advice on naval and maritime history subject matters.
