LCDR James Miller is an Assist and Assess Team member, helping fleet staffs understand and incorporate operational doctrine into their battle rhythm, both in steady-state operations and in crisis response. He has been an operational planner with COMSEVENTHFLT, Combat Systems and Force Protection Officer at COMPHIBRON THREE, and Operations Officer on the USS DONALD COOK. He holds a Masters degree from the Army's Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, KS, with a focus on Military History.

Masters of Military Arts and Science - Military History

Completed Masters' Degree and JPME I at the Army Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, KS. Thesis was on wargaming at NWC during the interwar period.

Finished tour at COMSEVENTHFLT

I stood up the N53 Japan Plans Branch at COMSEVENTHFLT and led the branch until my departure.

Finished tour at COMPHIBRON THREE

Completed tour as the Combat Systems and Force Protection Officer for CPR-3. Completed successful INSURV with RUSHMORE.

Finished tour at USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75)

Completed tour as Operations Officer for DCK. Joined ship in the middle of Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO deployment ISO counter-piracy operations off the Horn of Africa.

Finished tour at USNA

Taught three semesters of Seamanship and Navigation at USNA. Helped revise and publish the Plebe Navigation textbook.

Finished tour at USS FORT MCHENRY (LSD 43)

Completed tour as Navigator for FTM and USS TORTUGA (LSD 46). Conducted hull swap to bring TORTUGA to Sasebo and bring FORT MCHENRY back to Little Creek. TORTUGA was the first US warship to enter New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Finished tour at USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56)

Completed tour as ADP Officer for SJA.

Commissioned at USNA

Commissioned an Ensign at USNA.
