Biography

Kolby Hanson is a political scientist focusing on irregular warfare and the internal politics of armed organizations, especially in South and Southeast Asia. He is currently writing a book on state toleration and militant recruitment that features interviews and survey experiments with current, former and potential militants in Northeast India and Sri Lanka. His research has appeared in the American Journal of Political Science, Security Studies and Journal of Experimental Political Science. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia University and a B.A. from Stanford University. He was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Dartmouth College.
