Biography

Senior Chief Hawes enlisted in the Navy in 1993. Upon completion of recruit training at Great Lakes, IL, he attended the Basic Music course of instruction at the Armed Forces School of Music and was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet Band in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1997, he transferred to Navy Band Great as principal clarinet in the Wind Ensemble. He detached in 2001 to attend the Unit Leader Course at the Armed Forces School of Music, and upon graduation, he reported to the Pacific Fleet Band in Pearl Harbor, HI. In 2011 he transferred to Commander U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band, and was assigned as Senior Enlisted Leader for Navy Band Northeast in Newport Rhode Island in 2017.

1993

Auditioned and selected as a Musician with Fleet Band Activities

Enlisted in the U.S. Navy and upon completion of basic training, graduated Basic Music Course at the Naval School of Music as a clarinet and saxophone instrumentalist. Served with Fleet Forces Band in Virginia.
1997

Principal Clarinet Navy Band Great Lakes, Great Lakes, Illinois

Woodwind section leader, lead alto saxophone in the big band, principal clarinet and Unit Leader of the woodwind quintet. Also served as Drum Major and Ceremonial Band conductor.
2001

Attended the Naval School of Music Unit Leader Course ("C" school) in Little Creek, VA
2001

Unit Leader of Pacific Fleet Big Band, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

Transferred to Pearl Harbor, HI, served as big band unit leader and lead alto saxophone, leading petty officer, drum major, operations coordinator, ceremonial band conductor, administrative petty officer.
2007

Senior Musician Course, Little Creek, Virginia

Graduated the Naval School of Music Senior Musician Course in Little Creek, VA. Selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer.
2008

Transfer to Navy Band Northeast in Seattle, Washington

Served as the band's operations coordinator, leading chief petty officer, command career counselor, Unit Leader of the ceremonial band and big band.
2011

Transfer Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band, Naples, Italy

Selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer. Transfer to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band. Operations Chief, Leading Chief Petty Officer, Ceremonial Band conductor.
