Biography

Captain Marro enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1984. After graduating from boot camp, he attended “A” and “C” schools and served as a hospital corpsman (pharmacy technician) at Naval Hospital, Newport, in Newport, RI from 1985-1988. After separating from the Navy to complete his academic studies, he obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees in radiological health physics from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and has served as a commissioned officer since 1995. He is currently working towards completion of a M.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering. His immediate family includes his wife Elba and three children, Alex, Isabel, and Bernadette.

Director of Source Operations

Managed civilian and military personnel who conducted radiation research operations involving multiple sources of ionizing radiation including a nuclear reactor, cobalt-60 irradiation sources, and x-ray producing equipment.

Subject Matter Expert

Served at U.S. Pacific Command as a health physicist in support of HA/DR efforts regarding unplanned radioactive material release in Japan which affected more than 16,000 Seventh Fleet personnel, 25 ships, and extensive amounts of equipment.

2008

DIrector, Radiation Health DIvision

Served as Director of the Radiation Health Division at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Coordinated all radiation health-related activities in support of maintenance for fast attack submarines.
2005

Assistant Program Manager

Directed civilian contractor efforts at Defense Threat Reduction Agency to characterize radiation dose for personnel involved in nuclear atmospheric testing from 1946-1962; dose results are required for VA compensation claims.
2002

Radiation Safety Officer

Served as the Radiation Safety Officer at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, a 300+ bed facility. Ensured all nuclear medicine, therapy, and other nuclear-related procedures were conducted per relevant regulatory requirements.
1999

Assistant DIrector, Radiation Health Division

Provided assistance to the Director, Radiation Health at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Coordinated efforts of civilian health physicists in support of fast attack submarine maintenance.
1997

Division Officer

Served as Division Officer (Medical Department) on board submarine tender USS EMORY S. LAND (AS-39).
1995

Radiation Health Officer

Served as leader of the Naval Automated Radiation Exposure Registry Division at the Naval Dosimetry Center. Responsible for electronic receipt, recording, and maintenance for all Navy and Marine Corps monitored radiation exposure results.
