About This Workshop

The workshop focuses on legal aspects of the most pressing issues in human rights and law of the sea, including responses to irregular maritime migration, maritime piracy, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, promotion of standards for the safe operation of fishing vessels and working conditions of fishermen, standards for the use of force at sea, and legal remedies. These issues arise during maritime law enforcement operations, regulation of international shipping and fishing fleets, and efforts to the plight of seafarers and refugees in maritime migration. The workshop is co-sponsored by the IMO International Maritime Law Institute.
