Congratulations on being selected to attend the U.S. Naval War College (NWC)! The NWC faculty and staff look forward to your arrival and the opportunity to get to know you and work with you during your time here.
NWC Student Registration
NWC student registration is due Thursday, 18 June. Instructions for completing the registration were in the welcome aboard email you received from the Dean of Students office. If you did not receive that email or have questions please contact us (information below).
Arrival to Newport
At the present time, upon arrival to Rhode Island you will be required to conduct a 14-day Restriction of Movement (ROM). NWC is adhering to Navy guidelines and Rhode Island self-quarantine requirements in conjunction with local considerations. We recognize the challenge this creates for you and your family in an already stressful time. The Dean of Students office is committed to answering any questions you may have, so please feel free to reach out to us for official information. You can expect further guidance regarding ROM and your arrival in the near future as we evaluate the best way to safely execute given our current constraints/restraints.
NWC Arrival Restriction of Movement Inquiry
You should have received an email with a link to a form called NWC Arrival Restriction of Movement (ROM) Inquiry from our Dean of Students. Please fill that out as best you can with what you know now. Understand guidelines and policy (and your plans) may change. We need to collect this data from all incoming students to help us plan better for your arrival. Please contact the Dean of Students office if you did not receive the survey.
Expect to utilize online collaboration tools during your time here. We are evaluating how to safely conduct our orientation, but plan for it to still begin 28 July. Some of the tools we use are Zoom, Blackboard and Microsoft teams. If you are unfamiliar with these tools, please take the opportunity to learn about them. You will have access to the NWC Blackboard site on 19 June, but you will not be able to log on prior to 19 June. Instructions were included in the welcome aboard email.
Q: Will ROM impact my report date? A: Please contact your Senior Service Advisor for more information as this is service dependent.
Q: Is NWC going to be entirely virtual? A: We are an in-resident program and are looking at all the possibilities to provide an in-resident education. Personal interaction is what makes the NWC experience fulfilling. While we may have to begin the semester virtually, our desire is to transition to some in-person interaction as soon as we can safely accomplish it. We are committed to the safety of our faculty and students.
