Gravely Group

The Vice Admiral Samuel L. Gravely, Jr. Naval Warfare Research Group is an Advanced Research Program (ARP) of study that focuses on research into Integrated Air and Missile Defense and Undersea Warfare. This graduate level program provides students the opportunity to study concepts in different warfighting areas and build knowledge through directed reading and other research.

About this Program

The Gravely Group works on several naval capabilities and concepts, this includes workshops and tabletop exercises, support to Commanders of U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Pacific Fleet, and the advancement and understanding of Integrated Air & Missile Defense and Anti-Submarine War. 

Students in this group will pursue research on evolving technologies, operational planning, and command and control concepts. Warfare area experts and practitioners will enable the development of a professional network in your area of interest and research.

This program is primarily seminar format but includes facilitated discussions by faculty, wargames led by faculty, workshops and research related activities, and research travel.

Program Curriculum

This 10-month specialized program of study is completed in conjunction with either the U.S. Naval War College, College of Naval Warfare senior level course or the College of Naval Command and Staff intermediate-level course core curriculum.

This program is conducted during the elective time slot in all trimesters and culminates in a well-researched, faculty-mentored professional paper. Research may be conducted on an individual or small group basis.

Students that complete this specialized program of study are award an Academic Qualification Designator (AQD 273).
