Strategic and academic preparation
At our Newport campus, you’ll fulfill your Joint Professional Military Education Phase II credit requirement, and you can also earn a master’s degree. The 10-month program is split into three trimesters, spanning both classroom-style and real-world learning opportunities—and you’ll prepare for higher responsibilities as a senior officer or for executive-level civilian leadership.
Core Curriculum
You will focus on four core subject areas: national security decision making, strategy and policy, joint military operations, and Leadership in the Profession of Arms.

Jamie M. Gannon
Col. Jamie Gannon (USMC ret.) is an Associate Professor of Joint Military Operations at the Naval War College, Newport, RI. He served at numerous command and principal staff positions in the Marine Expeditionary Forces, and as a joint logistics planner and Exercise branch chief at USCENTCOM during the early stages of OEF and OEF. He commanded a logistics battalion and a Marine Wing Support Group; during both periods he deployed in command of JTF support forces in major HADR events in Pakistan and Japan. His combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan included staff assignments with I MEF and USCENTCOM HQ. Other staff tours include HQMC, MARCORSYSCOM and MARCORLOGCOM.
Dana Struckman
Dana Struckman joined the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) faculty upon his NWC graduation in June of 2006 and served as a military professor for four years. In 2010, he joined the faculty as a full-time Professor of Practice and currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the National Security Affairs Department.
