Biography

Lt. Col. Andrew Zikowitz joined the U.S. Naval War College in 2025 as a member of the National Security Affairs Department. He commanded at the battalion level and served in various staff positions. His past assignments include the 82nd Airborne Division, 10th Mountain Division, U.S. Military Academy, Special Operations Command Forward - East Africa, and Headquarters, Department of the Army DA G-3/5/7. He received his B.A. from Saint Anselm College and M.A. from Columbia University.

2023

Battalion Commander

Commanded the, 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, NY. The battalion consisted of a headquarters battery, three firing batteries, and a forward support company. Deployed as Al Asad Air Base and Task Force Redleg commander for Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR).

Action officer in the Operations and Contingency Plans Division (DAMO-ODO Headquarters Department of the Army, G-3/5/7, Pentagon, Washington, DC. Supported mobilization, force generation, service requirements, and orders publication.
2020

Interagency Fellow

Served as Desk Officer for South Sudan with the Sudan and South Sudan’s Programs office in the Africa Bureau in United States Agency for International Development, Washington, DC. Coordinated between USAID Mission Juba, USAID DC, and interagency for development programs and humanitarian support.

Primary planner for building partner nation and U.S. capabilities in the land and coastal domains for Special Operations Command Forward – East Africa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa. Coordinated with USAFRICOM, USSOCOM, Joint Staff, and Department of State (DoS).
