Biography

Lt. Col. Jonathan Romaneski is an Army Aviation officer. He graduated from James Madison University in 2005, where he majored in history. His operational experience includes multiple combat deployments to Baghdad and to RC-South, Afghanistan, as well as six years in Germany and an AH-64D battalion command in Fort Wainwright, AK. He earned his master's and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in military history with minor fields in the early American Republic and diplomatic history. He has prior teaching experience in military and international history at West Point.

2023

Battalion Commander, 1–25 Aviation Regiment

Commanded an attack aviation battalion with responsibility for operations, personnel, leader development, discipline, safety, and welfare. Directed complex mission sets across Arctic and Indo-Pacific theaters, including multinational training events, civic engagement, and joint force integration.
2020

Deputy Senior Aviation Trainer, Joint Multinational Readiness Center

Trained and mentored aviation brigade and battalion staffs in command and control, synchronization, and sustainment for large-scale combat operations. Designed and executed realistic, scenario-driven training for units across permanent and rotational force deployments.
2017

Executive Officer, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade

Managed and executed the brigade’s operations and maintenance budgets. Coordinated directly with military, diplomatic, and government officials across NATO to plan training and cooperative events.
2014

Instructor, Military History Division, U.S. Military Academy at West Point

Taught core courses in the History of the Military Art (Ancient to Present). Developed and implemented an original course on Warfare Since 1945 with global and interdisciplinary focus. Directed multi-semester honors thesis programs; advised undergraduate cadets on research, writing, and professional development. Led staff rides focused on leadership, decision-making, and historical analysis.
