Biography

A historian of empires and colonialism, Dr. Stoll completed his Ph.D. at Cambridge under the supervision of Prof. Sir Christopher Clark. His dissertation examined Great Power imperial competition, colonial governmentality, and the professionalization of the social sciences (ca. 1878-1926) in the British and German colonial empires. His current projects include a global history of fortifications over the longue durée and an examination of the transimperial intersections of imperial aggrandizement, frontier militarism, social psychology during the Boxer Rebellion (1899-1901). In the past, he has served in a variety of military intelligence, war planner, strategist and irregular warfare assignments.
