Minister of National Defence of Greece Discusses Wargaming, Unmanned Systems with U.S. Naval War College Leaders
The Hon. Nikos Dendias, Minister of National Defence of the Hellenic Republic, visited the U.S. Naval War College’s (NWC) Newport, Rhode Island, campus on Oct. 15, 2025.
During his visit, Minister Dendias met with NWC President Rear Adm. Darryl Walker, Provost Dr. Stephen Mariano and other subject matter experts, and received briefs on NWC programs, wargaming and unmanned systems, among other subjects.
"It was a true honor to welcome the esteemed Minister of National Defence of Greece to the U.S. Naval War College,” said Walker. “Our rich history of operating and fighting alongside our Greek allies is well documented, and I'm proud of the role the U.S. Naval War College has played in making that possible. Since 1970, nearly 10,000 members of the Greek armed forces have received formal training in the United States, through institutions like our naval war college.
“Hosting the honorable Minister Dendias is another way we're able to ensure our program here continues to serve as that critical hub, where joint combined forces from around the globe can share battlespace awareness, develop common warfighting practices across all domains, and support NATO interoperability,” he continued. “This visit highlights how the war college is uniquely positioned to engage with allies and partners on all matters of naval power in order to preserve the peace, respond in crisis, and win decisively in war."
The visit by Dendias came within three weeks of NWC visits by Rear Adm. Oliver Berdal, Chief of the Royal Norwegian Navy, and Rear Adm. Luis Del Carpio Azalgara, commander of the Peruvian submarine force, respectively, as well as a local pierside tour of the Italian Navy training ship Orsa Maggiore by NWC leaders.
Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
