Derek Wessman profile image


Capt. Derek Wessman is a professor in the National Security Affairs Department. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1993, he earned a BS in Math. As a naval aviator, he flew the P-3 Orion on maritime patrol missions primarily in the Middle East and Pacific. He transitioned to the C-9 Skytrain conducting logistics missions. His command and staff tours include U.S. Transportation Command, Navy Recruiting District Phoenix and director of NWC's Naval Command College. Most recently he served on the Navy staff as strategy director for the Chief of Navy Reserve. He holds an MA in national security and strategic studies from NWC and has accumulated approximately 4,400 flight hours.
