Biography

Professor James P. Murray attended the United States Naval Academy, was commissioned upon graduation on 27 May 1981 and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 1983. Professor Murray served in a variety of operational aviation, sea, service and joint staff, and leadership positions. He served as the Naval War College Dean of Students from February 2004 until November 2007. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (2), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy Commendation Medal (2), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal (2).

Director, Executive Level Operational Level of War (ELOC)

Director and lead facilitator for ELOC which educates attendees in understanding the intricacies of effectively participating in the decision making process and management of a command.
2014

Deputy Director, Operational Level of War Programs

Responsible for the management of activities enabling departmental support to maritime staffs.
2010

Director of Operations, Operational Level of War Programs

Responsible for integration and synchronization of all departmental directorates enabling support to maritime staffs.
2007

Associate Professor and Faculty member, Maritime Staff Operators Course (MSOC)

A lead professor to prepare personnel for assignment to operational level staffs with a greater understanding of joint/service doctrine, concepts, organizations, functions, roles and responsibilities of maritime operations center (MOC) staffs as well as an understanding of the navy Planning Process.
