Biography

Capt. Jonathan Puglia received his commission through the U.S. Naval Academy in 2001. His sea duty and operational assignments include explosive ordnance disposal as well as diving and salvage units on both the East and West coasts. He has served on a staff position at Joint Special Operations Command and completed the service chief fellowship program at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in naval architecture from the Naval Academy, Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School and Master of Arts degree in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College.

Professional Highlights

2017

Commanding Officer, Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit ONE

Responsible for providing scalable, combat-ready, expeditionary, and rapidly deployable teams to conduct harbor clearance, salvage, underwater search & recovery, and underwater emergency repairs in any environment regardless of platform.
2015

Operational Planner, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC)

Deployed to Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, and Turkey in support of planned and contingency operations. Served as liaison officer for the JSOC Commander to Special Operations Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve.
2013

Executive Officer, Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal

Served on the command leadership team responsible for delivering basic explosive ordnance disposal training to the Uniformed Services (United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps) as well as international partners and allies.
2012

Operations Officer, Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit ONE

Deployed as a Task Group Deputy Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Forward.
