Biography

U.S. Navy Cmdr. Mark Yehl is currently the director for the Naval Staff College. Cmdr. Yehl is a SH-60B pilot and has served in a variety of operational tours including the Assistant Air Officer USS Essex (LHD 2) in Sasebo, Japan and department head at HSL-48 while deploying in USS San Jacinto (CG 56). His shore tours include instructor pilot in HSL-40, Training Officer at Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing, Atlantic, Air Operations Officer at Fifth Fleet and Exercise Director at Fourth Fleet. Cmdr. Yehl enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1988 and is a native of Orrville, Ohio.

2018

Deputy Director, Naval Staff College

Manages multiple funding lines and assists the Director executing the Field Studies Program to support a class of approximately 60 International Officers.
2014

Exercise Director and Deputy Future Plans Director, U.S. FOURTH Fleet and U.S. Naval Forces, Southern Command

Led a team responsible for the planning and execution of naval exercises in the USSOUTHCOM AOR.
2012

Air Operations Officer, Future Operations Directorate, U.S. FIFTH Fleet/U.S. Naval Forces, Central Command

Led the Air Operations Cell and managed CVW operations in the USCENTCOM AOR, worked with USAFCENT on the Combined Defense of the Arabian Gulf, Targets, HOSTAC and liaised with the Bahraini ATC.
2009

Training Officer/MH-60R & MQ-8 Firescout Transition Officer, Commander Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing, Atlantic

Planned the transition for manpower, training, aircraft and support systems from the venerable SH-60B to the MH-60R. Developed new training and readiness matrices in coordination with CNAF for the MH-60R and MQ-8 crews. Developed an overland training syllabus for MQ-8 operators.
2006

Detachment OIC and Maintenance Officer, HSL-48

Deployed a two-plane SH-60B detachment on a CG to the Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean and Black Seas. Led the maintenance effort for HSL-48 which comprised of 230 personnel and 14 SH-60B aircraft.
