The Strategy & War (S&W) course at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) begins on August 8th, 2024 and concludes on November 6th, 2024. Please follow health and safety guidelines and refer to the orientation material for more guidance.
The Strategy & Policy department at NWC teaches the S&W course to intermediate-ranking U.S. and international military officers (O3-O4), along with nominated civilian applicants (GS13-GS14, or equivalent).
This course examines how the overall strategic environment shapes operational choices and outcomes; familiarizing students with the fundamentals of foreign policy and military strategy. In addition, the course assists students in developing a coherent framework for analysis of decisions involving the use of force to achieve national objectives.

About the U.S. Naval War College
NWC features a one-year graduate-level program that annually graduates about 600 resident and 1,000 distance learning students. Graduating students earn Joint Professional Military Education credit and either a diploma or a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies or Defense and Strategic Studies.
