A Blue Arctic: The Department of the Navy’s Strategic Blueprint for the Arctic
On January 5th 2021, the Department of the Navy released its Strategic Blueprint for the Arctic titled a ‘Blue Arctic’. This forward-looking strategy describes how the Department will apply and integrate naval power in an increasingly navigable Arctic region over the next two decades. It contends that without sustained American naval presence and partnerships in the Arctic Region, peace and prosperity will be increasingly challenged by Russia and China. It challenges the U.S. Navy-U.S. Marine Corps-U.S. Coast Guard team to evolve and expand the range of integrated capabilities as it pursues the three strategic objectives noted in the strategy.
