The Basics of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning - When a Muffin becomes a Panda
Artificial intelligence (AI) and its workhorse - machine learning (ML) - are now well embedded in our society. But both are the offspring of cyberspace and completely dependent on the computational power and connectivity of underlying and shoddy cyber substrate for their development, data sharing, and operations. With that dependence comes the opportunity of malicious actors including our peer adversaries to corrupt the AI/ML processes on which critical functions increasingly will depend. This lecture is intended to provide you with a very basic understanding of what is AI/ML, how does it work, and how can the adversary corrupt it at key points in its development, training, use, and feedback. The objective is to equip you with a formative understanding sufficient for you read of AI/ML developments, proposals, and potential for operations in the future without being confused and to build on this foundation for the future.
