Israeli National Security: Challenges and Opportunities in an Era of Change
Israel has recently celebrated its 71th anniversary and is militarily stronger than ever before. Despite this, it faces a daunting array of internal and external national security challenges, including Iran’s ongoing nuclear program and efforts to spread its influence around the region, Hezbollah’s massive rocket arsenal, Hamas terrorism, and an ongoing stalemate with the Palestinian Authority, as well as Russian resurgence in the region. Dr. Freilich will discuss these challenges and shed light on some of the related domestic issues that complicate Israeli national security strategy. Particular attention will be devoted to the US-Israeli “special relationship” and its importance for both sides. He will draw on his experience as both a scholar and practitioner in his lecture.
