Synopsis

Mr. Lawrence is the Vice President and Chief Security Officer for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). NERC is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. They are overseen in the U.S. by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and by governmental authorities in Canada. As Chief Security Officer and head of the Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center (E-ISAC), Mr. Lawrence is responsible for working with public and private sector leaders to help protect the electric grid against man-made and naturally-occurring threats. In this talk, he will discuss the scope of challenges to securing the reliability of the electric grid and address major threats and measures taken to counter them. The talk is open to all students and faculty and will be conducted at the UNCLAS level.
