This Wednesday, retired UK Army Lt. Gen. Richard E. Nugee will speak at The Forum at Newport, discussing the topic: Why Should DoD Care about Climate Change?
Nugee was commissioned into the UK Army in 1986. He completed operational tours of Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Cyprus and Afghanistan, for which he was awarded the U.S. Legion in Merit. He also specialised in personnel (HR) roles culminating in Chief of Defence People. He spent his final year writing a Review of Defence's approach to Climate Change and Sustainability, and is now the non-executive director for Climate Change and Net Zero for the Ministry of Defence.
The Forum at Newport is an evening presentation co-sponsored by Salve Regina University.
In a new initiative The Forum at Newport, the U.S. Naval War College and Salve Regina University are teaming up to focus attention on the implications that climate change will have on national security organizations, activities and locations. This is the first Forum event in a new series designed to increased cooperation and scholarship between the two higher education institutions located on Aquidneck Island. A follow-on event will be held on the Salve Regina campus in the summer of 2024.
