U.S. Naval War College (NWC) President Rear Adm. Darryl Walker met with European Union (EU) Defense Attaché to the United States and Canada Rear Adm. Henning Faltin during a visit to the college’s Newport, RI campus, Feb. 12.
The leaders discussed the contributions of students and faculty from European Union maritime forces to the exchange of perspectives and experiences necessary for NWC’s mission to provide high quality professional military education and engage with partners and allies on all matters of naval power.
In addition to his meeting with NWC’s president, Faltin delivered a lecture to students, staff and faculty on “EU Common Security and Defence Policy” and “NATO-EU/U.S.-EU Relations.” The lecture was part of NWC’s Lectures of Opportunity series, designed to expose students to diverse viewpoints from leaders, researchers and practitioners in the field of national security and defense matters. NWC currently has 30 students from the EU enrolled and has graduated 298 EU naval leaders over the past 10 years.
NWC’s International Programs department supports intellectual engagement between U.S. and international leaders to achieve cognitive advantage as a joint, combined warfighting force.
