U.S. Naval War College (NWC) President Rear Adm. Pete Garvin visited U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) headquarters in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Feb. 7-8.
During the visit, Garvin met with PACFLT Commander Adm. Samuel Paparo and PACFLT Director of Maritime Operations Rear Adm. Daniel Martin.
The leaders discussed NWC’s role in supporting the fleet through education and training, relevant research and international engagements with U.S. maritime allies and partners.
Topics of discussion included NWC support to PACFLT through analytical wargames like the Global Series and the Naval Services Game; education and engagement efforts in support of maritime operations center (MOC) effectiveness; research groups with a focus on the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility; research conducted by the China Maritime Studies Institute; and legal analysis of regional issues by the Stockton Center of International Law.
The visit also coincided with a team from NWC’s College of Maritime Operational Warfare supporting PACFLT during the bilateral command post exercise Keen Edge 24, held between the U.S. military and Japan Self Defense Forces with participation of Australian Defence Force.
