Resident Domestic Students

Each year, more than 600 outstanding intermediate- and senior-level officers and civilian leaders participate in the 10-month resident program at U.S. Naval War College (NWC). For about a year, you’ll call the NWC campus and Newport, Rhode Island, home.

Campus Life at U.S. Naval War College and Naval Station Newport

Our historic, 27-acre campus is part of Naval Station Newport, a base that’s also home to 50 military commands, educational institutions, and services. While the focus of your tour at NWC is academics, you’ll also have the chance to participate in social events, student organizations, and intramural athletics. If your spouse is joining you in Newport, they also have access to campus amenities, including a spouses’ club.

Exploring Newport, Rhode Island

While you’re attending NWC, you’ll have time to take a break from coursework to explore Newport and the New England region, from seaports and mansions to festivals and downtown entertainment.
