MONTEREY, Calif. -- Naval War College (NWC) Monterey students earning academic honors during the fourth quarter of academic year 2017 were honored during a brief ceremony near the NWC Monterey Program offices in Halligan Hall, Oct. 24.

Army Maj. Matthew Redmond earned “With Highest Distinction” honors along with Navy Lt. Kevin Chaney for completing the program in the top five percent of the class.

“The vast array of backgrounds and experiences that each student brings to the classroom is one of the greatest strengths of studying at NPS [Naval Postgraduate School] and the NWC,” said Redmond. “Working together, we have been able to learn from each other and discover new approaches to tackling problems that we will all bring back to our respective branches of service.”

Graduates earning “With Distinction” honors by completing the Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) program in the top 15 percent of their class included: Army majors Matthew Bauer, Anthony Evans, Chad Klay and Christopher Coatney; Navy Lt. Cmdr. Reed Kitchen; and Navy Lt. Matthew Bouwense.

Through the NPS-NWC partnership, a total of 4,750 officers have earned their JPME Phase I certification since the program’s inception in September 1999.
