Biography

Capt. John McTamney serves as the Senior Service Advisor for the U.S. Coast Guard and a Joint Military Operations instructor at NWC. He recently completed a tour as Commodore of CTG 55.1/USCG Patrol Forces Southwest Asia as part of U.S. 5th Fleet, Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain. He holds a bachelor's of science from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Academy, a master's of business administration from Florida Atlantic University and a master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from NWC. He also served as a Nautical Science instructor and staff department head at the USCG Academy.

Commodore of CTG 55.1 (O6 command) at NAVCENT; CO of 300 deployed US Coast Guardsmen and 6 154' Fast Response Cutters engaged in operations throughout the Middle East in support of CENTCOM.

Nautical Science Department Head, US Coast Guard Academy

Navigation and Seamanship Department Head at the US Coast Guard Academy. Led a dozen faculty to provide NECHE-accredited college courses to CGA cadets, including a world-class navigation simulator and four training vessels. Previously, as a LT, taught as a navigation instructor at CGA for 4 years.
