Biography

Michael Schmitt is professor emeritus at the U.S. Naval War College. Formerly the chair of the Stockton Center for International Law, he is now the executive editor of its journal, International Law Studies. In 2018, he was the research scholar of the year. He holds the chair of international law at the University of Reading and is G. Norman Lieber distinguished scholar at the U.S. Military Academy, Strauss Center distinguished scholar at the University of Texas, senior fellow at the NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence and general editor of the Lieber Studies series (Oxford). Professor Schmitt is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
