Biography

Michael Schmitt is the Charles H. Stockton Distinguished Scholar in Residence and professor emeritus. Formerly the Chair of the Stockton Center for International Law, he is now the Executive Editor of its journal, International Law Studies. He graduated 1st in his class from the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) in 1996 and was its 2018 research scholar of the year. He holds the Chair of International Law at the University of Reading and is Francis Lieber Distinguished Scholar at the U.S. Military Academy, Strauss Center distinguished scholar at the University of Texas, senior fellow at the NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, and general editor of the Lieber Studies series (Oxford).
