Biography

Cmdr. Battles is a career surface warfare officer with service aboard frigates, destroyers and cruisers. Most recently, he commanded guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs from Miami University, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies, with highest distinction, from the Naval War College. He was recognized as honor graduate for NWC's College of Naval Warfare and also completed a graduate certificate in Ethics and Emerging Military Technology.
