The National Security Decision Making (NSMD) course at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) begins on February 23, 2023 and concludes on May 31, 2023. Please follow health and safety guidelines and refer to the orientation material for more guidance.

The National Security Affairs department at NWC teaches the NSMD course to senior-ranking U.S. and international military officers (O5-O6), along with nominated civilian applicants (GS14-GS15, or equivalent).

This course is designed to engage students in the current and future complexities of a rapidly evolving national and international security environment. The course offers a broad interdisciplinary curriculum in contemporary security studies that encompasses a diverse spectrum of global and regional issues and perspectives, but with emphasis on U.S. decision-making challenges and processes at the national strategic level.

About the U.S. Naval War College

NWC features a one-year graduate-level program that annually graduates about 600 resident and 1,000 distance learning students. Graduating students earn Joint Professional Military Education credit and either a diploma or a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies or Defense and Strategic Studies.
