A Conversation with the Assistant Secretary General for Operations of NATO John Manza

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, and we have just concluded the thirty year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. NATO in the 20th century was the world's most successful multilateral military alliance. What are the challenges for NATO moving ahead towards the mid-21st century? How can an alliance set up to repel a 20th century conventional assault be reconfigured to deal with the challenges of grey zone competition in the Euro-Atlantic theater given the technological, political, economic and demographic changes? How can NATO continue to assure security and provide deterrence while becoming more agile and adept at dealing with new challenges and new threats?

This event allows for a frank dialogue and exchange of views at a point in time when NATO stands on the cusp of change.
