Lyric Passage: History, Ethics and Espionage in a Navy Family

Dr. Jim Stockdale will highlight some of his experiences growing up with his father, Vice Admiral James Stockdale. He will also discuss his father encountering the Stoic philosophy at Stanford, the return to ’the line’ as a fighter pilot, up through his personal role in the August 4, 1964 Gulf of Tonkin fiasco, and the months leading up to being shot down. Finally, he will discuss some of the policies and practices used in prison based on his father’s studies per the Stoics and leadership by example.
