Personal Insights on the Leadership of Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr.
Elmo “Bud” Zumwalt was a United States Navy officer and the youngest person to serve as Chief of Naval Operations. As an admiral and later the 19th Chief of Naval Operations, Zumwalt played a major role in United States military history, especially during the Vietnam War. A decorated war veteran, Zumwalt reformed United States Navy personnel policies in an effort to improve enlisted life and ease racial tensions.
His son, Jim Zumwalt, is a retired Marine infantry officer who served in the Vietnam War, the 1989 intervention into Panama and Desert Storm. During the Lecture of Opportunity (LOO), Jim will provide insights on his father’s leadership style and what made him a success throughout his illustrious career.
