Winning the Peace with 1%: How USAID Changes the World and Improves US National Security for the Cost of an Aircraft Carrier
Megan Rhodes is a 2019 graduate of the U.S. Naval War College and a career civil servant at the U.S. Agency for International Development. She will provide an overview of USAID's history in U.S. national security, from its roots in the Marshall Plan all the way to today's great power competition. For less than 1% of the federal budget, U.S. foreign assistance has helped lift millions out of poverty, eradicated diseases, and rebuilt communities recovering from disasters. Ms. Rhodes will explore the value of having the military understand the strength of soft power and the opportunities to work together to advance national interests.
