This event is for Naval War College students, faculty and staff.

U.S. Naval War College’s Stockton Center for the Study of International Law will co-host a symposium on "The Law of the Sea Convention and U.S. National Interests" with the University of Virginia School of Law's Center for Oceans Law and Policy, April 25. 

The symposium will gather leading academics and senior leaders from the U.S. military and interagencies to discuss U.S. national security and commercial interests in acceding to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. 

Speakers include U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Steven Andersen, U.S. Navy Rear Adm. John Hannink, and senior policy makers from the U.S. Department of State, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Maritime Administration. It will also include senior representatives from the maritime shipping and mining sectors. 

The event will take place on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. 

Academic papers from the symposium will be featured in International Law Studies, the oldest continual published international law journal in North America, at http://digital-commons.usnwc.edu/ils/
