This event is for spouses, partners, and significant others of military/civilian employees assigned to the Naval War College and Naval Station Newport and its tenant activities, Foundation members, and local-area retirees or active/reserve personnel.

This conference theme explored China’s claims and capabilities within and around the first island chain or in the so-called "near seas."

The six panels assessed the rapidly evolving situations of concern in the Yellow, East and South China seas.

Then, participants collectively formulated balanced assessments of capabilities, doctrinal development and plausible scenarios.

Finally, they discussed and debated possible U.S Navy responses to China’s near seas strategy.
