2009 marked the 60th consecutive Current Strategy Forum conducted by the Naval War College in Newport, RI.

Annual forums are designed to provide an opportunity for exchange of views among outstanding scholars and leaders from across industry, government and the military. As the Navy focuses on current operations, it also must also look beyond the horizon. The Navy must support our nation's national security objectives even as new challenges and threats emerge to threaten the global system.

The 2009 forum presented the perspective of the nation's leading experts on how the Navy can both meet future challenges and identify opportunities to promote a more stable world.

The 60th Current Strategy Forum explored:

  • The Challenges created by the long-term economic, demographic and geopolitical trends that impact U.S. national security
  • The Strategic Opportunities that the United States will encounter in a rapidly changing geostrategic environment
  • The Influence the United States and the maritime services will have in securing a more stable and peaceful world
