A Rhode Island native, Capt. Amaral enlisted in 1990 and attended Naval Training Center Orlando, FL. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in 1995 and served on USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), USS Wasp (LHD 1), and USS Carter Hall (LSD 50). His tours ashore include Administration Officer to the Surface Warfare Officer’s School (SWOS) Department Head Course, Action Officer to Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command/ United States Northern Command, Senior Officer Ship Maintenance and Repair Course (aerospace) Instructor, and Deputy Director of the Prospective Commanding Officer Course at SWOS. He joined the Naval War College in 2013.
