A Rhode Island native, Capt. Amaral enlisted in 1990 and began his career at Naval Training Center, Orlando, Florida. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1995 and served on USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), USS Wasp (LHD 1) and USS Carter Hall (LSD 50). His tours ashore included administration officer, Surface Warfare Officer’s School (SWOS), action officer to Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command/U.S. Northern Command, SWOS Senior Officer Ship Maintenance and Repair Course (SOSMRC) Instructor and deputy director, Prospective Commanding Officer Course at SWOS. He joined the U.S. Naval War College in 2013.
