US Naval War College, Newport RI

Assigned to the Stockton Center for the Study of International Law as a Military Professor.

Service Prosecuting Authority (Germany)

Assigned as a Prosecutor, dealing with a broad caseload including offences of serious violence, sexual assault and fraud.


Assigned to the Operational Law Branch in Warminster, providing pre-deployment legal training to soldiers. Deployed to Afghanistan in October 2012, working in the UK Logistic Headquarters at Camp Bastion, advising on detention and disciplinary issues.

Sierra Leone

Assigned to the International Military Advisory and Training Team (IMATT), acting as legal adviser both to Commander IMATT and to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

British Army Headquarters

Assigned to the Employment Law Branch, advising on employment issues and Service Complaints.

Headquarters 1st (UK) Armoured Division, Germany

First legal assignment within the British Army, advising mainly on disciplinary matters.

Commissioned into the British Army

Joined the Army Legal Service in January 2009. Completed the Professionally Qualified Officers’ course at Sandhurst before spending three months attached to 1st Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles in Brunei.

Qualified as a UK lawyer

Commenced legal career at the London office of Norton Rose, a leading international law firm. Continued to work in private practice for a number of years, ultimately heading up the Employment Law Department of a law firm in the south of England.
