Biography

Capt. Scott “Spill” Smith earned his Wings of Gold in February 1998 and completed initial F/A-18 Hornet training at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, in November 1998. He deployed seven times aboard USS Kitty Hawk, USS Ronald Reagan and USS John C. Stennis in support of Operation Southern Watch, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn, completing more than 120 combat missions. He commanded Strike Fighter Squadron Nine Seven and amassed more than 3,300 flight hours and 890 carrier arrested landings. Ashore, he served as deputy operations division chief at U.S. European Command before being selected as Officer-in-Charge, Isa Air Base, Bahrain.
